Flower Alley's 2^nd Stakes Winner is LILACS AND LACE (08 f. o/o Refinement, by Seattle Slew) was second best in her stakes debut, but was going for a rematch with her rival on January 1 in the $100,000 California Oaks and put her away in the stretch to post an easy length and a half victory. The saying is starting to be that "The Flower Alley's get stronger as the distances get longer," and that was definitely the case here, as her second came in a one mile black-type event and this win was going a mile and a sixteenth. The filly is now also qualified for the Black Eyed Susan because of the victory and, should she win the series, would get a $2-Million bonus. Flower Alley's second lifetime winner is DESERT ALLEY (08 g. o/o Desert Girl, by Carson City), who was a gutsy winner on August 13 when he took a $17,931 maiden special at Canterbury Park going 5-1/2 f. Flower Alley's first lifetime winner is SMOKE ALLEY (08 f. o/o Smokem Then Frolic, by Smoke Glacken), who took a $35,439 maiden test at Woodbine going 6 f. on the all weather track. The filly was only mak-ing her second start, but was the post time favorite and posted a head victory. The win sets her record at 2-1-0-0 and her earnings at $20,143. Owner: Theodore F. Burnett. The first Flower Alley foal is a bay colt out of the stakes winner Country Vision, by Cahill Road, foaled on January 8 at Millennium Farms, near Lexington, KY.

"He's a really nice baby, with plenty of size, bone, substance and just a lot of quality about him," said Marc Wampler, who purchased the mare carrying the Flower Alley colt at the Keeneland November Sale for his client, James Hindman's Rich Meadow Farm.

"I'm super excited about the foal," said Wampler. "In fact, I called [Three Chimneys] the day after I saw the colt and bought a season to breed one of my mares back to him in '08. If they all come out looking like this one, you'll be all set."

The colt is the first foal out of stakes winner Country Vision, who is out of a half-sister to stakes winners Captain Video, A Penny Saved and stakes-placed Dream Me and Buckaroo's Dream.

Flower Alley, a 6-year-old horse by Distorted Humor, won the Travers S. [G1], Jim Dandy S. [G2] and Lane's End S. [G2] and was second in the Breeders' Cup Classic [G1] at age 3. He retired with earnings of $2,533,910, having won or placed in nine of his 14 career starts. The leading son of Distorted Humor at stud, he stands at Three Chimneys for $25,000 guaranteed live foal, payable September 1, 2008, book size limited to 110 mares.
