Šshe overcame the relatively difficult draw to find a good early position. ŠAt the 400m mark, she drew a length clear of the field with the jockey barely moving on her. Strydom looked over his shoulder for challengers 200m from home but the race was practically over as a contest. Melrose Point, was eased down to the wire. She won by 3 lengths effortlessly. The filly had the fastest time for an eighth mile work at :10.1, "gliding effortlessly down the stretch with little encouragement from her rider," wrote the Thoroughbred Daily News.
